Sri Lanka Police who choke young men

This tragedy was reported from the Poddala Police Station in the Galle Police Area. The incident can be interpreted in different ways. Some may consider it a tragic incident and others may conclude that it should have happened that way.
A youth has been arrested by the Poddala Police for possession of cannabis. It is said that this young man is addicted to cannabis. He was arrested by the police while riding a motorcycle. The young man who was arrested by the police has been instructed to appear in court and released on police bail. His motorcycle has been detained by the police.
It is said that the young man intended to plead guilty to the charges after appearing in court. After pleading guilty to the charges against him, he could have been fined about fifty thousand rupees.
The young man planned to sell his motorcycle to pay the fine. The young man, who was suffering from economic poverty, had no other option. But the motorcycle was already in the custody of the police. The young man pleaded with the police to release his motorcycle and give it to him. But the police rejected his request. The young man knew that if he could not pay the fine that would be decided after appearing in the case assigned to him and pleading guilty, he would be imprisoned.
That is why the young man was very upset because the police did not release his motorcycle. He was very worried about being imprisoned.
In the end, this young man committed suicide by hanging himself. The police may not have considered this suicide as a serious matter. Therefore, it is not impossible to reduce this young man's suicide to the death of a cannabis addict who is not needed by society.
But we are deeply saddened by the suicide of that young man. If he had the means to pay the fine, this young man would still be alive. The police may have many reasonable legal arguments for not releasing the young man's motorcycle. We cannot question it. We are focusing on this incident out of humanity.
The police are now working with a frenzy to arrest any citizen and file a case. The police have given priority to the duty of drug raids over all other duties. In fact, it has become a coercion carried out due to the inability to evade official orders from above rather than giving priority to duty. Here, the oppressed people at the lower rungs of society have had to suffer from the police's authoritarian coercion.
It was reported today that Vishwa Kodikara, a famous actor in the country, was fined five thousand rupees after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court for possessing one milligram of cocaine.
We cannot question the court's decision. But many people who are presented in drug cases that are continuously reported and heard in this country do not have the same luck as Vishwa Kodikara. The police's effort is to keep such people in Welikada for at least fourteen days.
But the police do their duty in the case of elite people like Vishwa Kodikara out of necessity. Such elites are taken to court with the devotion of carrying offerings to a temple.
We believe that the Poddala youth's suicide by hanging himself should be discussed in society. Our youth should not be subjected to such an unfortunate fate.
