Compensation for the deceased jailers is Rs. 10 million each

The Ministry of Justice and Prisons has reportedly decided to pay compensation of Rs. 10 million each to the ten prison officers who died after being attacked by inmates during the clash that took place in the Negombo prison yesterday.

Many people who criticized the government had previously continuously alleged that the compensation paid by the government was Rs. 500,000 each.

⁣It has also been further recommended that the spouses and guardians of the officers who died in the prison clash be given their monthly salaries until the age of 55, and thereafter be given pensions.

⁣It is reported that these decisions were reached following a discussion held by the Minister of Justice and Prisons, heads of ministries and the prison administration with the President on the 17th.

 It is said that this is the first time that prison chiefs have had the opportunity to meet with the Head of State and discuss their institutional issues
