About Lanka Update

What we publish

Lanka Update reports on Sri Lankan public life: national politics, the economy, defence and security, the courts, social affairs, and arts and culture. We also cover the international stories that matter to Sri Lankans at home and abroad — including the Sri Lankan diaspora in Europe.

Every article is written and edited by the newsroom. We do not republish syndicated wire copy as our own, and we do not publish sponsored articles disguised as reporting.

Two editions

The site is published in two separate editions, each with its own URLs so that readers and search engines always land on the language they asked for:

• The English edition at lankaupdate.com
• The Sinhala edition at lankaupdate.com/si

The two editions are edited independently. An article in one language is not necessarily a translation of an article in the other.

Who runs it

Lanka Update is published by Sunil Gamini Jayalathge, an independent journalist based in France. The publication has no political party affiliation and receives no funding from any political organisation.

Publishing began in 2026. The site is funded by advertising.
