Prison clash kills 26. 19 inmates. 7 officers.

The death toll from the clash that took place in Negombo Prison over the past two days has been confirmed to have risen to 27. Official sources say that 19 inmates and 7 prison officers were among the dead.

Over a hundred people were injured in the clash. At the Negombo District Hospital alone, 77 injured people are currently receiving treatment. Among them are 23 officers and 54 inmates.

In addition, another group is receiving treatment at the Colombo General Hospital's intensive care unit.

It is believed that the clash erupted after an attack on a group of people who had provided information about drugs. There is a serious problem as to how the inmates got hold of weapons.
