Riyadh airport attacked, 12 killed, 309 injured.

At least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in an attack on Riyadh International Airport on Saturday, Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation officials said. A diplomatic source blamed Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the attack.

The dead included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis, an American, an Egyptian, a Jordanian, a Syrian, a Palestinian and a Sudanese, the statement said. Some of the injured were in critical condition.

The Iran-backed Houthis have launched an unprecedented wave of attacks targeting Saudi airports, oil facilities and tankers since a ceasefire in their long-running war with Yemen’s Riyadh-backed government in July.

The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority earlier said operations at the sprawling King Khalid International Airport were suspended after the attack.

Damage is still being assessed.

The attack forced health officials to activate a rare mass call-up of several doctors to deal with the “serious emergency,” a medical source said.

Foreign embassies have warned their citizens to avoid the airport.
